PENNY DROP - "I believe this idea was actually an Enrichment Activity in the lesson manual, but I found that it works to bring order back to the classroom. Tie a penny into the corner of a handkerchief or cloth. When the children get rowdy, tell them that it's time for them to try to hear the penny drop. Have them close their eyes (or I've also turned off the lights) and drop the cloth on to a table. The children, in my experience, are intrigued by this idea and the room will become deathly silent. Once they have heard the penny drop, turn the cloth around so that the penny does not hit the table and see if they can hear the cloth drop." SHELL,Y MESA, ARIZON
